The Lancaster County coroner and an independent forensic pathologist say the newborn died from a traumatic splenic rupture—not measles. Across six counties, no coroner’s office has a record of the second death.
For four days, Pennsylvania’s health establishment has told the country that two Lancaster County residents died of measles — that RFK Jr. is to blame, that the Amish community is the vector, and that anyone asking questions is spreading dangerous misinformation.
By last night, three separate outlets — LancasterOnline, TribLive, and NBC News — had published the on-the-record statement of Dr. Stephen Diamantoni, the elected Lancaster County Coroner. What he said, and what a second forensic pathologist confirmed, does not survive contact with the political narrative the state has been running.
What The Coroner Actually Said
The infant died on August 14 at a birthing center in Christiana Borough, Lancaster County. Cause of death, per Diamantoni:
“Traumatic laceration of the spleen.”
Not measles. Massive internal hemorrhage from a splenic rupture. When Diamantoni examined the case, in his exact words to LancasterOnline:
“There was no swelling or enlargement whatsoever” of the spleen.
He was not alone. TribLive confirmed that his conclusion was based on the concurring opinion of Dr. Wayne Ross, an independent forensic pathologist. Two credentialed medical professionals, working the same case, reached the same conclusion: measles was not a contributing cause of death.
The Medical Literature Says This Should Not Be A Measles Death Argument At All
NBC News, in its account, added a hedge on Diamantoni’s behalf that deserves to be answered directly: “Detecting spleen enlargement could be difficult during an autopsy after a rupture has occurred.” This is the medical equivalent of a rhetorical shrug, and it collapses the moment you look at the literature.
Splenic rupture is not a documented cause of measles death in the modern medical literature. Every major public-health authority describes measles mortality the same way. The CDC’s clinical overview states plainly that “1 to 3 out of every 1,000 children who become infected with measles will die from respiratory and neurologic complications.” The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control reports that “pneumonia accounts for six out of ten measles associated deaths.” A 2016 hospital case-series in the Journal of Family Medicine and Primary Care reports that “pulmonary complications account for >90% of measles-related death.” A 2013 comprehensive review, citing Duke and Mgone in The Lancet (2003), reports that “pneumonia, the most common fatal complication of measles, occurs in 56–86% of measles-related deaths.”
None of these authoritative sources — CDC, ECDC, WHO-cited literature, or published outbreak studies — describes splenic rupture as a mechanism of measles fatality. It does not appear on the CDC’s clinical overview. It does not appear in ECDC’s complication list. It does not appear in the standard reviews. Splenic rupture from infection is well documented for other pathogens — Epstein-Barr virus (mononucleosis), malaria, babesiosis, cytomegalovirus, and influenza — each with its own published case-report literature. Measles is absent from that list.
The clinical picture the coroner actually described — neonatal splenic rupture in an infant delivered by a lay midwife — has its own established literature, which does not include measles among the etiologies. Chang et al. (2021), reviewing 39 cases of neonatal splenic rupture in Frontiers in Pediatrics, identified vaginal delivery and presentation within 12 hours of birth as risk factors for mortality, with hepatic and adrenal lesions accounting for most cases of intra-abdominal hemorrhage in newborns and splenic lesions accounting for approximately 10%. Measles is not mentioned in the etiology.
The state of Pennsylvania is now asking the country to accept that this newborn is the first modern documented case of measles-induced fatal splenic rupture — without producing a single credentialed pathologist willing to say so on the record. The coroner and Dr. Ross are on the record. The state has produced no counter-pathology. In every court that matters — medical, legal, or evidentiary — that ends the argument.
The Actual Clinical Picture
NBC News confirmed a detail LancasterOnline did not report: the birth was attended by a lay midwife who was not certified in midwifery. A traumatic splenic rupture in a newborn is a recognized obstetric complication — associated with difficult delivery, resuscitation compression, or inexperienced attendance. It is not a recognized complication of measles in any modern cohort.
The medically parsimonious explanation is a birth-injury death in a Plain-community birthing center. The state chose to announce it as a measles fatality — an epidemiologically unprecedented and pathologically unsupported framing — because the political value of a measles death, in the middle of a war between Governor Shapiro and Secretary Kennedy, was higher than the medical value of an accurate one. Diamantoni himself named the atmosphere for what it was. To LancasterOnline, he called it —
“A pissing contest.”
An elected coroner does not use that phrase about a sitting governor and a US Health Secretary unless he is prepared to defend everything before and after it.
The Vaccination Framing Was Medically Impossible
Governor Shapiro announced Tuesday that both deaths involved “unvaccinated” individuals — the implication being that vaccination would have prevented the tragedy. Diamantoni, to LancasterOnline:
“Newborns get vaccines for hepatitis B in the hospital before they leave. The vaccine for measles, mumps, rubella — the MMR vaccine — isn’t given until 12 months of age.”
The infant was too young for the MMR vaccine under the CDC’s own schedule. There was no vaccination decision to blame. The Governor of Pennsylvania stood at a Penn Medicine podium and told the country that an unvaccinated family caused this child’s death — when in fact no child of that age receives MMR under any American medical guideline. There was nothing to opt out of. There was nothing to refuse. The framing was medically impossible from the moment it left the podium.
The Second Death Does Not Exist In Any Coroner’s Records
Diamantoni had no information about the second Lancaster County death Shapiro announced. And LancasterOnline’s reporter went further — he called every neighboring county coroner. Berks. Chester. Dauphin. Lebanon. York. From LancasterOnline directly:
Coroners and medical examiners in Lancaster County’s border counties told LNP | LancasterOnline on Thursday that they had no records of measles-related deaths.
Six counties. Zero measles deaths on the record. Diamantoni, to TribLive, on the second death:
“We have no idea who that really is.”
The Governor of Pennsylvania announced two deaths from a Penn Medicine podium. One has been medically dismantled by the county’s elected coroner and an independent forensic pathologist. The other does not appear in any coroner’s office in the region.
The State Admitted The Term Is Meaningless
Pennsylvania Department of Health press secretary Neil Ruhland, quoted in LancasterOnline, admitted what “measles-associated” actually means in the state’s own definition:
“Laboratory or epidemiologic evidence of measles is present but the official cause of death is under investigation.”
Translation: the state announced two “measles deaths” before either cause of death had been determined. That is not epidemiology. That is a press release. Health Secretary Dr. Debra Bogen — a Shapiro appointee — told NBC she had “thoroughly reviewed the case investigation information” and had confidence in the classification. She did not, in that statement, produce a pathologist. She did not produce a cause-of-death certificate. She produced her own confidence. In a case where the elected coroner and an independent forensic pathologist say the finding is unsupported, the Health Secretary’s confidence is not evidence. It is a political posture.
The Reporting Protocol Was Violated
Diamantoni is the elected coroner. Under Pennsylvania law, deaths from infectious diseases with high risk of contagion are reportable to his office. On the second death, to LancasterOnline:
“The law is: they should be reported to us.”
“I think the ball’s in their court in terms of whether they wish to share that information, and clearly they weren’t sharing it with the public.”
He learned about the Tuesday press conference by surprise. The state health department had not contacted him directly. His chief deputy received a call before the press conference — after the state had already decided how to characterize the deaths, but before any coroner in the county had certified them.
The Paul Offit Escape Hatch
The NBC piece quotes Dr. Paul Offit, of the CHOP Vaccine Education Center, arguing that two deaths out of 494 cases represents a 1-in-200 fatality rate — twenty times the historical measles rate — and that this proves the outbreak is far worse than reported. In his words:
“This is much worse than people are saying.”
Offit’s math depends on both deaths being real measles deaths. The coroner has already dismantled one. The second is unverified in every neighboring county. If one of the two deaths is not a measles death, the case fatality rate falls to 1 in 494 — well within the historical range for measles in a healthy population. If neither is confirmed by any coroner, the rate is zero. Offit’s alarm is a mathematical house of cards balanced on two press-release deaths, and the coroner has kicked out one card. The other has never existed anywhere except in the state’s announcement.
Offit is a serious pediatrician making an argument that only works if the state’s press-release epidemiology is correct. It isn’t.
What The State Actually Did
Two months ago, Governor Shapiro personally handed Sanofi Pasteur $10.6 million in taxpayer subsidies at their Swiftwater, Pennsylvania facility — the plant that manufactures the MMR vaccine now being marketed as the solution to this crisis. In the same year his administration was drafting the vaccine-mandate infrastructure I documented in Blood on Whose Hands? Inside Governor Shapiro’s Vaccine-Industry War Room.
Pennsylvania manufactures more than half of America’s vaccines. Governor Shapiro’s Executive Order 2025-02 boasts of that market share as an economic asset of the Commonwealth. When his Health Secretary announces two measles deaths at a Penn Medicine hospital and calls for renewed vaccination compliance, she is not speaking as a neutral public health authority. She is speaking as the health-policy arm of a state whose largest exports include the product being sold.
Blood on Whose Hands? Inside Governor Shapiro's Vaccine-Industry War Room
He personally handed a vaccine manufacturer $10.6 million on June 26. He signed an executive order declaring Pennsylvania makes half of America’s vaccines. His five-year war-room partner declared ‘blood on their hands’ within hours of two deaths whose cause the state still won’t release. Every fact here is on Pennsylvania’s own website.
What Was Actually Established Last Night
Every element of the Governor’s Tuesday announcement has now been contradicted by the elected county coroner with statutory authority over the case, with the concurrence of an independent forensic pathologist, on the record, in three separate publications:
The first death was not caused by measles. It was caused by a traumatic splenic rupture with massive internal hemorrhage. Two doctors said so. The state has produced no doctor who says otherwise. Splenic rupture from measles is essentially unprecedented in modern medical literature.
The proximate clinical cause is birth trauma. The infant was delivered at a birthing center by a lay midwife not certified in midwifery. Traumatic splenic rupture in a newborn is a recognized obstetric complication. Not a recognized measles complication.
The vaccination framing was medically impossible. The infant was below the CDC’s own age threshold for MMR.
The second death is not on record anywhere. Six county coroners’ offices have zero measles deaths. The state has produced no cause-of-death information for the second announced death.
The state’s own press secretary admits “measles-associated” is applied before cause of death is determined.
The reporting protocol was violated. The state announced deaths it never reported to the coroner who by law was supposed to know.
This is not contested interpretation. This is the elected coroner, an independent forensic pathologist, and the medical literature — against a press conference, a Health Secretary’s confidence, and a mathematical alarm built on unconfirmed premises.
The Question Left Standing
The Governor of Pennsylvania stood at a Penn Medicine podium and announced two measles deaths that could not be verified, that had not been reported to the elected coroner charged with verifying them, and that were medically impossible to attribute to vaccination status — as the political basis for the framework of blame he then aimed at Secretary Kennedy, the Amish community, and every American asking questions about the pharmaceutical-state architecture I have been documenting for months.
The Lancaster County Coroner said the quiet part out loud this week. An independent forensic pathologist backed him. The medical literature backs both of them. What remains is a matter of what elected officials in Harrisburg are willing to answer for — and what the press is willing to keep asking, now that the coroner has done the hard part.

Shapiro lied, plain and simple. These idiot Democrats cannot tell the truth to save their lives. They just want to stir up public unrest and cause fear mongering. It’s disgusting. He should not hold public office ever again.
Maybe this is to resurrect conversations about the pandemic corruption: how people dying in car crashes were listed as dying from COVID: the spleen-ruptured baby tested positive for measles antibodies, so "measles death": just like during COVID when every admitted patient tested positive for COVID no matter what they were there for or died from so were listed as a COVID death.
