One of the best ways to avoid depression is: STOP EATING the foods, which contribute to it. There are 200 diseases caused by eating grains...per Deadly Grains by James Braly M.D. and Ron Hoggan M.A. Schizophrenia and mental problems are triggered by grains. There are many books available on this subject, but Deadly Grains is the best. The other major source is SUGAR...I learned about SUGAR 65 years ago...and stopped using it. SUGAR caused hyperactivity in my child and the doctor put him on tranquilizers. Then I read TRANQUILIZERS STUNT the developing organs of children. i stopped the Sugar and tranquilizers.. my son settled down in school. SUGAR has no value, but it robs your body of any nutrients you may have...just being digested.. Eating nutrient-rich natural unprocessed food provides the brain with the nutrients it needs to function well. People eat too many cooked foods and heat destroys nutrients. The synthetic nutrients added by the Food Industry are not the same as the nutrients in organically-raised natural food. I love bananas and they have a lot of magnesium. Many years ago, I read Dr. Russell Blaylock's newsletter and he recommended Solgar's B Complex for mental health. I started using it... and it made me feel very Zen and feet on the ground.

For depression, I wonder why the researchers did not choose the L Threonate form to evaluate.

Mindful that non-native emfs contribute to magnesium depletion in the body.

Good article Sayer, thank you. Plan to share. I would add sunlight, and forest bathing to the list.

Even cheaper is meditation! The final cure for my severe 14 year bout of severe depression was during my fifth Vipassana meditation (dhamma.org) retreat. I remember the exact moment.

But I have to admit I stabilized my mental state with nutrition and some supplements, which allowed me to manage the very challenging 10 day silent retreats.

I've been taking magnesium for at least 10 years. My alternative practitioner verified that my body is deficient in it. She said most Americans are deficient in magnesium. I wondered about the soil and on a soil map of the US the whole Southeast portion has very little magnesium in the soil. So I started adding magnesium to my garden in the form of Epsom salts. The plants grow better and since I eat the plants I'm pretty sure it's helping me 😀

So very many natural substances and therapies "put psychiatric drugs to shame."

ALL "drugs"...everyone will soon KNOW THE TRUTH that all the PIG pHARMa stuff is bad for us and the old ways ARE THE REAL CURES--As God put everything on the Earth for us to keep us in good health; until the devil tried to intervene using his minions!

Our bodies need minerals to properly function!! We were never taught any of this!! It’s time to educate ourselves!!

There are a potentially endless number of drugs that put psychiatric drugs to shame. They are all outlawed. --signed, a 68-year-old who is dependent on underperforming, expensive and dependence-causing meds.

Didn't do anything for me but I am probably underdosing by a factor of 4 relative to the study. Take note of dosage of whole compound vs dosage of elemental magnesium.

Important info, to be sure, but it reads like breaking news although the study was published in 2017.

So you recommend mag glycinate over threonate? It’s certainly cheaper. And I’ll switch if it’s just as good.
