In 1961, my son 4-1.2 year old son was sent home from kindergarten, because he was hyperactive. I was told to take him to a doctor for treatment. Being an ignorant young mother, I took him to a doctor who put him on tranquilizers. Fate stepped in and my brother-in-law handed me some books on health and nutrition. He said, "Barbara, start reading. You are listening to the wrong people." I silently scoffed and thought, "What do you know! You aren't a doctor!" However, I opened the first book and my eyes spotted two things. I connected the dots immediately.. SUGAR creates HYPERACTIVITY and TRANQUILIZERS stunt the DEVELOPING ORGANS of children. I was floored, when I read this; and took my son off of the tranquilizers and immediately eliminated all the foods the doctor had recommended, which contained sugar. His food recommendations from the beginning with the rotten formula ( corn syrup and canned evaporated milk) had harmed my child. He screamed for his first three months. He was starved of nutrients. The information in those books got me into the study of health and nutrition 64 years ago. I would not be alive and healthy at 91, if I had not opened those books my good friend handed me.

Well, this article covers at least 2/3rd's of the situation - what is missing for me:

1.) Using drugs for metabolic maintenance, rather than just an emergency situation is wrong. Period.

2.) When my son was refusing to do his schoolwork at 8 yrs. old, he tore his paper & broke his pencil in half in front of the class, and they sent him home: I took him to 5 specialists, including Shand's 'best of the best' Medical Doctor's & Psych Dept's...they tried to tell me that he had "ODD," Oppositional Defiant Disorder, and offered to give me $400/mo (yrs ago, so I am sure it's more now, and hopefully will be stopped by this shutdown!) for his 'disability' to agree to put him on their medication program...I refused, not only because I didn't need the money, but because it was specific to one environment, his school, and I also had 3 PhD's tell me that he was just 'bored to tears' and that allowing the label, putting him in an exceptional learning program, not only gave the school more money (incentive,) but also allowed recruiting of him into the juvenile delinquent process they promoted in there...wow!

3.) I found a good psychologist, whom recommended dietary changes, natural supplements, and counseling, and ended up homeschooling him while working full time (inconvenient, but we all make sacrifices for what we really want or care for) - he finished high school & standardized tests at 12 yrs old, and now holds a Double Major & is fluent in 6 languages...

Moral of the Story: This whole ADHD/ODD, and drugging of children is another racket, aimed at crippling our most gifted children, and stifling our future - please share these facts with people so that they can protect their children from this horrible exploitation of our children & their future!

ABSOLUTELY. Smart kids don't like to be bored ... by the common school indoctrination system..

This is an extremely important article that I wish everyone who is on prescription Ritalin and Adderall should read! I have been saying it is speed for forever but no one seems to care and I don’t understand how you can think that giving speed to children is a helpful thing. I would love to know more about this supplement and I will be reading everything I can get my hands on but I would also love to know your thoughts on how much and what time in the day to take Pycnogenol. As always Sayer, you are a wealth of fantastic information, thank you!

Yup, giving speed to kids because they “can’t focus?” Um, maybe healthy food, married parents, discipline, no distractions, and proper concentration training would prove effective??

Nah, just give the kids pervitin like the Nazi soldiers! Only the greatest fools and delusional idiots would ever countenance such a thing.

In saner times, any buffoon even suggesting such a degenerate and vile act would be disciplined immediately by a responsible male.

This well-written article should be the lead story in every newspaper and magazine, regardless of whether or not their readers are parents. As you say, this a national disgrace. It is distressing how deeply wedded the psychiatric profession is to Big Pharma. And, this rush to drug people also happens with adults with a variety of mental health issues. I love how you end with a gentle remedy that Nature offers and the same lifestyle choices that can convey true health and vitality, such as diet, sleep and social support. Thank you for this critical article. Namaste

This is a fine article, delighted know pycnogenol has this effect but the entire start/basis/origin of the ADHD debacle is brain damage from vaccination. Have you read Dr. Coulter's fine & disturbing book "vaccination social violence and criminality, the medical assault on the American brain"? I contend that if we have had even one vaccine we have suffered brain damage even though it may be extremely subtle. I am glad there is an alternative to speed for children, diet is critically important, I am sure the vast majority of parents are competent- Dr. Coulter contends parents have been unfairly charged with damaging their children when the foundation of the problem is brain damage from vaccines. Schools are responsible for inattention too- I am appalled at what passes for education, I would be bored, I would act out if I had to sit through hours of what I see in schools today.

Last time I volunteered in a middle school classroom, 2010, a student asked to use the restroom, he was excused. 1/2 hour later he asked again - the teacher requested an adult supervise. Suspicious of “drug use”. No the kid had a urinary track infection. He was humiliated by the teacher + the interrogation per the schools VP. His parents decided to homeschool. That classroom was extreme boredom, preparing for state testing Funding & pressure, another debacle.

Ritalin Free Kids by Robert Ullman and Judyth Reichenberg-Ullman illustrates how homeopathic treatment can be a life changing healing natural intervention for kids diagnosed with ADHD (formerly ADD). I have seen many children improve in my practice with homeopathic remedies. Although ADHD is mis-categorized as an “idiopathic” diagnosis, it is not a fake diagnosis, in my opinion. Rather, it is a mixed bad of diverse neuropsychiatric symptoms that come as a consequence of neurologic damage causes by neurotoxins in the environment babies and kids are exposed to, particularly aluminum and mercury containing vaccines, but other vaccines as well. Also, glyphosate, other neurotoxins, and possibly electromagnetic toxic exposures in utero or in early development. Yes, boys will be boys, and yes, our educational system expects uniform compliance of all rather than adjusting to the teaching needs of the individual, but there also is also true neuropsychiatric damage here amongst many if not most behaviorally disruptive, probably most often in those with impaired detoxification biochemistry.

Check out this amazing article (https://www.midwesterndoctor.com/p/how-much-damage-has-mass-vaccination) and this (https://ia902907.us.archive.org/18/items/coulter-h.-l.-vaccination-social-violence-criminality-1990/COULTER%28H.L.%29-Vaccination_Social_Violence_%26_Criminality_%281990%29.pdf) book, which explains how vaccines cause encephlitis, which is brain inflammation and injuries that lead to all types of "behavioral disorders" and even to criminal behavior!!

1. Can the use of Ritalin and Adderall be traced back to the Department of Education? Doesn’t the school get paid more money for those in the special category?

2. My grandson has taken one of these for two years. He rarely eats. So now his brain is even more starved. (They recently stopped it).

3. Toxins are also a factor, as explained in the article. Vaccines especially. The Henry Ford Hospital study of Vaxxed vs. Unvaxxed showed zero ADHD kids in the unvaxxed. See Del Bigtree’s recent documentary.

4. Screen time. So many young boys play games on a big tv, that their brain is neuro-developing badly. Then you put them in a classroom expecting them to act like obedient zombies, and so their vision includes peripheral stimulation (watching for the next thing to shoot or blow up), and their hand movements are now suited to a game controller. They are always on high alert.

This article is gold!

My daughter was having bouts of hyperactivity and crazy behaviors, like going onto the table and throwing objects or continually fighting with someone for no obvious reason. We went to a holistic practitioner who recommended Kirkman Labs glutathione cream, and it worked wonders. I decided to try having her inhale Browns gas (from the Aquacure ac50), which increases the body's glutathione production and is a potent antioxidant that can cross the blood-brain barrier, and thank god her behavior is almost perfect for a child her age!

1988 boys in my son’s Santa Cruz California classroom, middle school, those identified by teachers as unruly, the superintendent & board of education, agreed medication was necessary. These were our latch key kids. Divorces, full time working father’s & mother’s, economical challenges, absent dads or moms. Incarcerated parents. Fewer off campus youth programs. Communities seemed to divide on the unruly & the seemingly “higher demographic”. 3 of my son’s medicated childhood friends ended up in prison. 2 other’s died, in 1999, high school, of heroin drug overdoses. And we’ve 1 class of 2000 suicide. 2009 my daughter’s, in public elementary school, their classmates would joke about the boys on meds. As a classroom parent volunteer I witnessed children reporting to the school’s office for their medication’s. I believe this was before the rise in early childhood diabetes. 2010 inhalers, asthma attacks, barged in. My son is now 43 he’s clean, sober, an electrical engineer; we grieve the death of his youngest sister. She died from an alcohol fentanyl overdose 8/15/24, she was 25. She was societally depressed. She expressed feeling powerless to global chaos that murdered children. She had nightmares. She was attached to a 24/7 smart phone its algorithms. Prior to her death she fasted 4 days, 96 hours, for the starving children in Palestine. His other sister, also my daughter, a 2018 UCSC grad, double majors in psychology, she’s a social worker. She councils dozen of societally traumatized kids. Income disparities, classifications, horrific diets, lack of abilities to focus, depression, belligerence, single parent households, unemployment, foster care, child protective services, addictions to social media & gadgets. Post COVID lock downs; another chapter in our “medicate” the youth debacle.

I've always thought ADHD was caused by young childrens' attention span being constantly disrupted by abrupt commercials on tv
