Granny starting walking one mile every day when she was 78.

She's 83 now and we have no idea where the hell she is.

Dr Thomas Cowan destroys the concept of the heart being a pump, and shoe how the circulatory system actually works.

He shows hiw heart attacks are NOT caused by blocked arteries.

I love walking so much (& have for so long now!) that I have a whole section on my old blog site with quotes & postings about it. There are some mighty fine quotes there!! https://www.janetsplanet.ca/quotations?category=Walking (There's also a page with quotes/postings about gratitude - another magical thing! https://www.janetsplanet.ca/quotations/category/Gratitude )

My 90+ mother is obsessive about walking, takes no meds, at all and after falling just a week ago is almost back to full mobility already She declined to go to hospital saying " what's the point?, they will only X ray it and say rest".

I'm 91 and was fast walking regularly for an hour, until nearby forest fires polluted the air. My daughter suggested that I use her treadmill...she usually helped me with getting on. One day I took it upon myself to use it...and pushed the wrong button...it accelerated and i wound up taking a ride on the tread to the floor. No broken bones; only lots of skin on my legs came off; and I have not been able to walk now for over two months. I am aware that walking stimulates the lymphatic system, which aids in healing...and it has been a slow healing process, because it hurts to walk. People have no idea how important walking is - in conjunction to health. It stimulates the circulation of the entire body. Movement is life!

Very disturbing and sad that such a good man was killed. My heart and prayers go out to his wife, children and parents.

Better get into therapy workouts to focus and motivate, even just standing ,flexing with a low partial impact can get flow going ,especially heal lifts ie the 2nd heart is lower leg pump back effect..you don't have to walk, just raise the heals over and over again from forefoot and toes for few minutes 3x day and it's equal to perhaps 3x walking in terms of adrenals and blood return.Consider manuka honey every night lather on deeply as it will heal, moisturize and is anti septic.Or try coconut oil raw 1 part to 6 parts water and 1/2 tsp vitamin C powder in a spray bottle, spray lightly twice day,1 drop of oregano oil optionak as is manuka honey tsp and vit E capsule squeezed. Consider a vibrating plate online,it will loosen stagnation and flow..

I'm back to fast walking for an hour daily in the sunlight! It just took more time to heal, when one is in the 90s. "Time heals all wounds." Thanks for the Manuka honey advice. My daughter gave me something, which contained honey on my legs. In the healing I experienced itching like mad...and apple cider vinegar stopped it. Life provides problems to solve!

Glad to hear of recovery, apple cider vinegar is great if applied very lightly or diluted as acid can eat thru layers of skin and make worse or even cellulitis staged as happened with me using it or wine in soaking manner, very bad idea, same w hydrogen peroxide..Manuka honey is great as do anti septic yet drawing out of contaminants buried in skin while keeping in healthy moisture range w reduced oxygen in its sticky thickness that would suffocate and damage w most all other substances..yes,so basically need method to reduce bad bacterias, etc while not damaging majority of skin ie rubbing alcohol in any dose fails generally here as so destructive to skin cells, vodka or wine or cider vinegar etc.in careful non soak manner dabs to kill them after 5 to 15 min flush w purer waters, then a extremely light moisturizer ie spray on best ie coconut oil w tad of additional antiseptic like Oregono oil is hard to beat, too much moisturizer damaged skin will reject causing dead cells, itching etc..its a real balancing game with skin injuries and pre cellulitis or cellulitis type of conditions, like staph that delay faster healings..it's really cellulitis much of the time but that diagnosis is delayed for multiple reasons including the adamancy that antibiotics be used immediately while many now know how damaging they can be in long run while turns out only really stops by majority cases only days or couple weeks old max usually, falling to like 15 percent in longer held cases because such deep layers of skin to fat layer effected so most people take antibiotics for cellulitis and they they fail as deep infections return aggravated by usually edema or dental or other infections in body missed or like..

Thanks for your comment. I put the ACV on a pad and dabbed it, after the skin had healed, but was itching like mad. It immediately stopped the itching.

Walking outside also gives you a dose of healthy Sun. Plus eyes go long focus as opposed to desk work.

OK, I appreciate Sayer's articles, tons of useful info. The idea of the soleus having the health impacts claimed here seem and may well be revelatory. That said, it seems presumptuous to state "walking 7000 steps a day cuts risk of death.....". It would be accurate to state it "is associated with" or "correlates with". I've noticed the better I feel, the more active I am. It's reasonable to conclude people who don't feel like moving around much are less healthy than those who do. Might say this is putting the cart before the horse. You could reasonably conclude that people walk more when they are healthy, rather than they are healthy because they walk more. I'm an exercise fanatic since the early 60's, I think walking is great. To maximize results, add sprints and strenuous resistance training. But I always strive to be objective and see through fallacies - including fallacies that reinforce my own beliefs.

7000 steps well studies sir,we are talking avg benefits and it's solid, sure if your slender and fit above avg your benefits will be less crucial there, otherwise better walk dude!

walking is the ultimate health hack. i've walked 12,500 steps per day on average so far this month.

And walking a dog that you rescue from a shelter will enhance your life and health even more so

Very well discussed. This is very important information that "everyone" should know and understand.

Up to approx 1/2 benefit is lost though if too sedentary rest of day, many go for a walk outside then barely move..

TCM was aware of this part of the body centuries ago. Just walking on tip toes for a few minutes each day is enough. You don't need to bring in the weights unless you are wanting to re-define the look of your legs.

Does having super tight calf muscles affect the soleus function ?

Maybe that story our parents told us about walking to and from school up hill was really true.

My neighbor walks in the morning and then takes another walk in the evening. He is so very healthy.
